I thought it would be fun to start sharing a few of my local loves here with you. When I think of shopping local Bird on a Wire Creations is one of the first places I think of!
Bird on a Wire Creations is a store and a community of people who support artists, artisans, and the buy local movement. Owned and operated by Kate Nagel, they curate Vancouver’s best art and artisanal objects —all one-of-a-kind, all handmade. The stores mission is to create a paradigm shift from Starving Artist to Thriving Artist and I think it is something that we can all get behind!
They do this by creating a supportive environment where new and established local artists and artisans can learn from each other and bring their wares to market without investing in nasty overhead. The store provides the staff, space and traffic to help create sustainable incomes. They also host and collaborate on a variety of community and educational events, including Private Views, Friday Night Craft Group, Felting classes, First Thursdays and other pop-up events and workshops.
Bird on a Wire Creations carries my work and I also worked there last year. From my experience I can say that Kate and the store live and breathe the values of community, supporting artists and the buy local movement. If any of this that didn't make you feel warm and fuzzy enough 10% of the net profits is donated to the local arts community.
